If you keep up with us on socials or have stopped by the cafe lately, you’ve probably heard about our Golden Bean The Americas entries. We’ve been perfecting our roasts and serving our coffees in the cafe, so you’ve seen our anticipation. We got the results, and…Blind Coffee Roasters won 5 medals!
Golden Bean is a worldwide coffee roasting competition. It’s divided by region, so we participate in Golden Bean The Americas. GBNA is a yearly competition, and about 1,500 roasters with about 6,000 coffees enter each year. In previous years, BCR has won a total of 46 awards, including a bronze medal in the 2025 World Series. In 2023 we became the most decorated roaster in Oregon.
The Coffees
We entered 4 coffees this year:
- Super G–a natural anaerobic yeast assisted fermentation (what a mouthfull!) Gesha, the rarest coffee varietal. If you couldn’t guess from the description, this is Tim’s entry. 😉 This coffee boasts a raspberry and rose hip brightness matched by brown sugar sweetness.
- Shuar Shot–a washed process from Ecuador. It tastes of baker’s chocolate, citrus, with bright acidity and smooth finish. It comes from a cooperative effort from different indigenous tribes in Ecuador, including the Shuar. Bowie has refined this roast over the course of months.
- Kouoptamo Cameroon–a washed process from the mountains of Cameroon. This coffee has notes of dark chocolate, honey, with subtle lemon peel. It is a smooth body with a pleasant linger. This was Sharayah’s entry.
- BCR Decaf–BCR Decaf is a sugarcane process with notes of caramel, semisweet chocolate, and hazelnut. It has won an award at Golden Bean every year since 2019.
The Results
And now, the moment we’ve all waited for: here are the results for Golden Bean The Americas 2025!
- Super G won BRONZE in espresso and SILVER alternative milk
- Shuar Shot won BRONZE in milk based
- Kouoptamo Cameroon won BRONZE in milk based
- BCR Decaf won GOLD in decaf
We’re so proud! The gold medal is our invitation to the Golden Bean World Series in Australia in February. Stay tuned to hear how that goes.
