{"id":53393,"date":"2025-06-20T14:57:39","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T21:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/?p=53393"},"modified":"2025-06-20T15:06:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T22:06:19","slug":"brewing-great-coffee-with-a-french-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/bcr\/brewing-great-coffee-with-a-french-press\/","title":{"rendered":"Brewing Great Coffee with a French Press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Everyone has their own preferred <a title=\"Coffee Brewing Methods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/bcr\/category\/all-about-coffee\/brewing-methods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brewing methods for coffee<\/a>.\u00a0 We want help you to be the best home barista you can be, so we&#8217;re sharing tips and tricks for each of the more common methods.\u00a0 There&#8217;s plenty of little tweaks to help your coffee taste even better.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Up first, we&#8217;ve got the coffee press or French press.\u00a0 In the history of coffee,\u00a0the coffee press is a relatively new brewing method.\u00a0 The first patent for a coffee press was filed in 1852 (yes, in France.)\u00a0 French press is a great option when you want a fuller bodied coffee since this method preserves the coffee oils in your cup.\u00a0 Because they come in different sizes, it&#8217;s also a great choice if you drink more than one cup of coffee each day.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">Basics<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Remember our\u00a0three things that affect the taste of coffee?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Controlling Water Temperature for Better Tasting Coffee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/bcr\/controlling-water-temperature-for-better-tasting-coffee\/\">Water Temperature<\/a>:\u00a0 we recommend about 207\u00b0<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"How Does Grind Size Affect Coffee's Taste\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/how-does-grind-size-affect-coffees-taste\/\">Grind size<\/a>:\u00a0 coarse ground is best for coffee press<\/li>\n<li>Coffee to water ratio:\u00a0 at BCR our preferred ratio is 17:1 water to coffee.\u00a0 For an 8oz coffee press, that would be about 14g of coffee; for a 32oz press about 56g.\u00a0 (A great opportunity to use <a title=\"Supplies for a Great Cup of Coffee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/supplies-for-a-great-cup-of-coffee-at-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that kitchen scale we talked about<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For brew time, we like 3.5 minutes.\u00a0 Shorter than that will result in a more acidic or sour coffee\u00a0(which you might be into).\u00a0\u00a0Longer will be a more bitter coffee\u00a0(you could be into that instead).\u00a0 Play around with the timing to find the sweet spot for your tastes.<\/p>\n<h4>Here&#8217;s a few things to keep in mind when using a French press:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Coarse ground coffee is best partly because finer grinds can get past the filter screen and into your cup.\u00a0 Finer grinds will also extract quicker, so you would need to shorten your brew time when using fine ground coffee.\u00a0 They also can be tougher to push down when pressing the coffee.<\/li>\n<li>When making more than one serving at a time, any coffee left in the press will continue to extract until it&#8217;s poured out.\u00a0\u00a0This remaining coffee can get bitter.\u00a0\u00a0To avoid that, try pouring your 2nd serving into an insulated mug instead of leaving it in the press.<\/li>\n<li>French press is great for those who like a big bodied, almost chewy mouthfeel coffee.\u00a0 This is because it does not filter out the coffee oils.\u00a0 If you prefer a lighter bodied coffee, but want to continue using a coffee press, you can pour the coffee through a paper filter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Need more coffee?\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"ml-rte-link-wrapper\" data-redactor-span=\"true\"><a title=\"Coffee Press\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/product-tag\/coffee-press\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We think these taste great in a coffee press!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everyone has their own preferred brewing methods for coffee.\u00a0 We want help you to be the best home barista you can be, so we&#8217;re sharing tips and tricks for each of the more common methods.\u00a0 There&#8217;s plenty of little tweaks to help your coffee taste even better.
