Medals (And Our First Gold!) at GBNA 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We had such a fantastic time at Golden Bean!\u00a0 If you keep up with us on socials or have stopped by the cafe lately, you\u2019ve probably heard about our Golden Bean North America entries.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been perfecting our roasts and serving our coffees in the cafe, so you\u2019ve seen our anticipation.\u00a0 \u00a0We got the results, and Blind Coffee Roasters won 10 medals!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What is GBNA?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden Bean is a worldwide coffee roasting competition.\u00a0 It\u2019s divided into regions, so we participate in <a title=\"Golden Bean North America\" href=\"https:\/\/goldenbean.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Golden Bean North America<\/a>.\u00a0 GBNA is a yearly competition, and about 1,500 roasters with 6,000 total entries participate each year.\u00a0 In previous years, <a title=\"Competitions and Awards\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/category\/bcr-news\/competitions-and-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BCR has won a total of 24 awards<\/a>.\u00a0 Last year we were the <a title=\"Golden Bean 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/blind-coffee-roasters-is-highest-oregon-finisher-at-golden-bean-north-america-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most decorated roaster in Oregon<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What coffees did BCR enter?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We entered 5 different coffees this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pineapple CoFerment\u2013a natural anaerobic yeast assisted fermentation with added pineapple (what a mouthful!)\u00a0 This coffee boasts a sweet chocolate start, bready quality, and pineapple finish.\u00a0 Tim was elated to find and roast such an interesting coffee.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden Bean Sumatra\u2013this is a washed process from the Mandheling region of Sumatra.\u00a0 This is Sharayah\u2019s entry.\u00a0 Notes of tobacco leaf, pine, persistent sweetness, with heavy body.\u00a0 We think it\u2019s the best Sumatra we\u2019ve ever had, and our market customers agree!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Call Your Mother\u2013another washed process, this time from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.\u00a0 Bowie crafted this roast.\u00a0 Notes of currant, plum, and cocoa with heavy body and medium bright acidity.\u00a0 Makes a phenomenal espresso!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zambian Fruit Cup\u2013this natural anaerobic process is another of Tim\u2019s zany coffee finds.\u00a0 It\u2019s a 9 day ferment anaerobic natural, with notes of pineapple, canned peaches, and sweet cocoa powder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BCR Decaf\u2013our decaf is a sugar cane process to preserve the coffee\u2019s flavor because we believe decaf should still taste good.\u00a0 Our decaf is one of our best sellers for a reason.\u00a0 In fact, several of our staff drink it on a regular basis.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blindcoffeeroasters.com\/bcr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_6630.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-52801 aligncenter\" the results for Golden Bean North America 2024!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pineapple CoFerment won bronze in milk based (latte) and alternative milk<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden Bean Sumatra won bronze in espresso and milk based<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Call Your Mother won bronze in espresso and milk based<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zambia Fruit Cup won bronze in milk based and pour over and (drum roll please!)
